and it's right outside our place. We were greeted with sunshine today which was wonderful because we planned to walk. Breakfast was at 9 and then we were off. Prospect Park is about 2 blocks away and it is Brooklyn's answer to Central Park. It was beautiful with the trees in colour. We walked the length of the park and out to enter the Park Slope area which has some of the best examples of fine residences from the late 1800's early 1900's. Many renowned people from Brooklyn's early days lived in the area. We had a guide book to tell us where to look.
From there we a very long way through central Brooklyn, some not so nice areas and finally to the Brooklyn Bridge. We were able, with hundreds of others, to walk up to the apex of the bridge and look over the harbour to the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty.
After coming down from the bridge we walked to Brooklyn Heights where,MOONSTRUCK was filmed. This is a very literary, very affluent neighbourhood where the likes of Truman Capote, Arthur Miller, Tom Wolfe and W.H. Auden lived almost on the same block. One street over the places looked over the harbour to Manhattan's skyline. They were in the $10 000 000. range.
Didn't make it back on foot. Took the subway. We are now resting from a great day. Tomorrow, the ship!
(The yellow house with Sheelagh on the step was Truman Capote's place, where he lived when writing BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY"S, The reddish one set back was Arthur Miller's And the one down at the bottom is where George Stone writes HIS BLOG)
